Believers once recognized their condition as sinners, and when they knew about God's justice, his love, and offer of forgiveness, grace, and salvation, admitted humbly they were needing Gods grace, did repent from their godless lives, and surrendered to Christ. They understood that the Lord is the only way to be saved, and receive eternal life. Peace went into their hearts, and upon developing their faith, and experiencing the Lords goodness, they solidified their faith and grew in stature, grace, love, obedience, and all virtues, and one day their hope of eternal life will become reality, and they will reign in all eternity as members of Gods redeemed family. Inner peace and intellectual satisfaction is a constant companion of the ones that trust God.
Unbelievers reject Gods grace. By doing so, they live in a constant conflict. They try to suppress the evidence of Gods existence and try to convince themselves, that their position is rational and justified. They also try to draw others to their condition, since that comforts them somehow. They never find peace in their heart, since there is always an inner voice which says: " what if ". And their conscience also knocks on the door, when not totally suppressed. They recruit all their intellectual forces and efforts to deny and reject God, but never with full success ( even if they claim otherwise, to others ). Gods direct revelation through his word, the Bible, and his creation is too strong to be neglected. Once they die, and what is told to us in the Bible is true, they will bitterly repent, and their position turns around 100%. They will regret desperately their wrong decision to reject God on earth, but in the same manner, as in life, there was no way for them to change based on their unwillingness, in their situation of pain, there will be also no way to change anymore.
The most tragic and remorseful decision someone can take in life is to reject unthankfully the life-giver. What a tragedy.
